🕊 CLÉMENT A. GBEGNO – Art as Resurrection
Born in Lomé in 1993, Clément A. Gbegno is a philosopher-artist whose work explores themes of memory, transformation, and spirituality. Passionate about drawing since childhood, he was trained through local workshops, earned a philosophy degree at the University of Lomé, and later studied fine arts in Abidjan (INSAAC) and Nantes.

His deep symbolic language resonates with the ecological storytelling of Diafrel and the emotional precision of Abuchi Iroegbu, forming a triad of artists engaged with memory, spirituality, and resistance.

His practice—encompassing sculpture, painting, and installation—delves into migration, ancestral rites, and historical trauma. Working with wood, iron, and stone, he unearths forgotten narratives. In his 2023 series The Twins, he draws from sacred Togolese rituals, creating twelve symbolic artworks that reflect the spiritual connection between the living and the departed.

An award-winning artist (Segou’Art, Salon des Grandes Cinnalses…), Gbegno has exhibited across Africa and Europe. His art bridges ancestral wisdom and contemporary expression, building symbolic connections between generations.

“What dies is reborn in another form. Art is that passage between shadow and light.”
