L’AME DES BATIMENTS
Omon Sophia
Artfrofest, in collaboration with Traversées Africaines, is proud to present L’Âme des Bâtiments , a profound solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Sophia Omon, who invites us to see the city not only as a structure but as a mirror of the human soul.
Urban Landscapes, Inner Journeys
Born in Lagos in 1989 and now based in Paris, Sophia Omon transforms the built environment into metaphor. In L’Âme des Bâtiments, architecture becomes a vessel of emotion, resistance, and memory. Each wall is a witness, each street a narrative echoing the silent resilience that shapes our lives.
Trained in digital arts and mentored by the legendary Bruce Onobrakpeya, Omon uses symbolic imagery, vibrant color palettes, and powerful visual storytelling to explore the tension between social constraints and personal transformation. Her work suggests that cities, like people , can break, bend, or bloom under pressure.
Between Wall and Willpower
Through acrylics and watercolor, Omon navigates the duality of permanence and fluidity. Her buildings do not merely stand ,they speak. They bear the imprints of trauma and hope, of ancestral memory and personal reinvention. For the artist, mental strength and the ability to dream anew are just as essential to building a life as brick and mortar.
Her mother’s unwavering resilience and her ongoing advocacy for girls’ empowerment remain central to her creative voice. Each artwork becomes an altar , a space of memory, resistance, and emancipation.
A Tribute to the Silent Builders
L’Âme des Bâtiments is a tribute to women who construct futures quietly but powerfully those who defy norms, who carry entire histories on their shoulders, who build not just homes but identities. Omon invites viewers to reimagine urban space as alive, shaped not only by policies and blueprints but by dreams, pains, and inner revolutions.
🟡 This exhibition is presented in partnership with Les Centres Paris Anim’, Claje , Ville de Paris – Mairie du 12e, and the Traversées Africaines and Festival des Cultures Urbaines initiatives.
